About Karina Puente

Architect, Illustrator, and Self-Taught Potter Inspired by Urban Landscapes

I AM AN ARCHITECT, AN ILLUSTRATOR AND SELF-TAUGHT POTTER

As a Peruvian architect turned designer, my passion lies in crafting imaginative worlds inspired by my global upbringing. Raised as a diplomat's daughter in cities like Helsinki, Wellington, Caracas, Guatemala City, and Lima, I've cultivated a keen eye for the intricate dance between history and modernity.

My artwork, a fusion of architectural precision and a lifetime of diverse experiences delves into the captivating realm of urban ecosystems. Teaching and creating art around these subjects, I explore the dynamic interplay between ancient and contemporary cities, pondering the effects of time on our surroundings.

Self-taught and deeply invested in my craft, my illustrations have gained international recognition, and featured in prestigious online platforms and international editorials.

Notably, my project inspired by Italo Calvino's "Invisible Cities" has become a captivating eight-year-long journey. Starting as a bedtime project for my son, this venture transforms Calvino's imaginary cities into tangible, visually arresting piece

Navigating the challenge of translating the subjective into visual form, I experiment with mixed media and collage techniques. From ink on paper to acrylic paint markers, my creations unfold in layers, revealing the rich tapestry of my interpretations.

Beyond illustrations, my artistic journey has taken me to NYU Shanghai for lectures, mural painting in Sao Paulo, and my inaugural solo exhibition in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, in 2019. Constantly evolving, my latest canvas extends to SCARVES, adding a new dimension to my expressive repertoire.
